"Holy Grail" Foundations: Estee Lauder Double Wear Vs Nars Sheer Glow

"Holy Grail" Foundations: Estee Lauder Double Wear Vs Nars Sheer Glow 1N1 Ivory Nude Gobi Swatches review compare

I see so many people say that Double Wear is their ultimate foundation, but I also hear the same about Nars Sheer glow - so I thought I would compare the two - and tell you which I prefer. I guess if you disagree you can let me know why in the comments below, or better yet if you have another contender though that out into the mix too!

"Holy Grail" Foundations: Estee Lauder Double Wear Vs Nars Sheer Glow 1N1 Ivory Nude Gobi Swatches review compare

Nars Sheer Glow  (£33 + £3 Pump = £36.00)
I am the shade "Gobi"
First up the shade range here is HUGE. Gobi is my perfect match. Nars seem to really look at the undertones, and this is the perfect Simpsons yellow for my pale skin lol.
Don't be fooled by the "sheer" it is far from it. I would describe this as medium to full coverage. It'll cover redness, but it won't cover everything. I hate the term "buildable" as I like to see foundation as they are what they are, so this is not full coverage, but the finish is stunning regardless.
I find this wears beautifully, it can last a full 12+ hours without sliding off my face, and will leave my skin natural vs matte. One of the few foundations that boast a glow but does not melt off my oily skin.
I use a beauty blender to apply this, and it is flawless with this method.

Estee Lauder Double Wear  (£32.50 + £4.50 MAC Pump = £37.00)
I am the shade "1N1 Ivory Nude"
The shade range with Estee Lauder is huge, but I feel like there is something missing with the bottom palest shades. just a few more.
Double Wear is definitely a higher coverage than most, but not in a cakey way. Somehow it just covers everything, without clinging to areas or without feeling heavy.
As someone with oily skin I would say this is pretty mattifying - I definitely don't shine through this one. It also stays put all flipping day.
What annoys me about this one is the pump, it doesn't come with one and the mac one fits - but not perfectly, so you need to do the awkward tip and hope you don't end up with WAY too much. As a clumsy person, this is super annoying.
What I would also say is that the finish on this is beautiful, but I am yet to find an application I love with this. It is nice with the beauty blender, but could be better - but same with the brush too. So I would love to know which one you prefer!

"Holy Grail" Foundations: Estee Lauder Double Wear Vs Nars Sheer Glow
Sheer Glow Vs Double Wear
So overall for me Sheer Glow wins, but only slightly. This would be the one I would run out and repurchase if I could only have one or the other. But Double Wear is still a stunning choice.

Have you tried either of these yet? Which one do you prefer? Let me know in the comments below :)

  • I've tried these and I've found faults with both. My shade matches were terrible but EL especially bad - I was matched as Pale Almond which is way too dark and pink for my complexion and similarly I was matched with Gobi in Nars. Gobi I didn't mind so much as it was lighter with yellow tones, but it just disappeared into my skin and Almond's pink tones made me look embalmed! I far preferred Sheer Glow in terms of feel and look and would probably give it another go in another shade, but DW I would have to really think about it. While it does give amazing coverage, it felt plasticky on my dry skin and quite heavy. I'd 100% recommend Armani's Luminous Silk - I use it on alternate days between my Bourjois Healthy Mix and both I find give great coverage that feels lightweight and looks flawless. I'm a 4 in the Armani and it's perfect!

    1. you have really got me wanting to try out Luminous silk, I think I am a 4 too! Pale Almond sounds so wrong for you - im gobi and 4, so you should probably be 1N1 (Ivory Nude) in double wear!

  • I wouldn't think Nars Sheer Glow works well with oily skin! I considered trying it out but I was too scared it'd make me shine like a disco ball after a few hours. I just got a new foundation but I'm always happy to try out new products, so I might go for the Sheer Glow eventually! The coverage of the Double Wear seems too much for me, especially since as you said the application isn't perfect. Thanks for this post, it is super useful :)

  • I have the Double Wear, which was a staple for me a long while ago. I am really curious about the Sheer Glow however. So many people mention it! I think I'll be picking it up very soon!

  • It really frustrates me when you have to buy a pump so that you can get the foundation out properly as it's an additional cost to the product itself which is slightly pricey already! It's interesting to hear that with the sheer glow it still stays on for 12+ hours with your skin type as I've heard others say it doesn't last very long on oilier skins!

Sheer Glow is my favourite too - I sometimes think Double Wear is a bit too full-coverage for day-to-day (though I love it on a night out) but the Nars isn't. The finish is just perfect too :)
