Ever since I started blogging I have heard comments like "Oh the blogging community just isn't what it was" Constant doubts of the bloggers, or the number of us now. This is typically said by bigger YouTubers or bloggers, missing the good old days where it was some sort of exclusive club... *eyeroll* I hate the exclusive vibe they wanted to keep, like somehow being new means you are not worthy, or wanted... To be honest I didn't take much notice of it, I just seen it as them being huffy over their club being open to all.
I think the hardest part about blogging is often not having real life friends who understand, it can be really hard to rant about an email, or a comment, or DA - if your friend has no idea what most of it means.
Twitter it can be so supportive.. you can find so many other like minded people who share your interests and blogging style, but at the same time it can be like shouting into an Abyss - making it hard to form friendships with people.
The best thing I have done this year is join an Instagram Comment Pod. Without a doubt. Sure they are frowned upon by IG, but having a group of 15 people - you quickly become so close with one another, chatting about all things blog, life. Suddenly I had a group of people I could go to about all things blog.
I couldn't love my friend circle more now - the people I chat to, the blogs I read, the videos I watch, it all feeds into one another, I feel like I know so many more people now just through the blog - something which could be seen as isolating is giving me friends. I LOVE it!
Funnily enough me feeling like this has come at the most ironic time, just as all the big YouTubers are moaning about the lack of community and the some of the Instagrammers are being called out as fraud, the little bloggers are all of a sudden looking incredible, and I couldn't be more proud of us!

I am so sick of all the negativity and bitching! It's ridiculous, I wish people would just mind their own business and work on their own blogs instead of ranting and raving on Twitter. It's always the same people, too. I'm just doing me, I stay out of the drama! After all, it only makes them look super immature.

I have also found close "beauty" friends through Instagram. Not necessarily bloggers but lovely, like-minded beauty enthusiasts. I find the comments and community generally warmer on Instagram than on Twitter or Facebook. My lovely Insta friends who always have a kind and supportive comment to make are @fifilovesallthingsbeauty @mausishuffle and @porelessperfection2 amongst many others xxx
ReplyDeleteWe're a squad and we love you too xx
ReplyDeleteSo many people say that the blogging community is bitchy but I don't think this is true at all. The large majority of bloggers are really lovely people and I'm proud to be part of this (not so exclusive) club!

Lovely post, it is so refreshing to finally see somebody talking positively about the Blogging Community and, just as you, I don't really like the big bloggers or YouTubers complaint, especially since most of them don't even respond to comments or take some time to visit new blogs! I don't mind, but they shouldn't criticize a community they don't really know anymore!

I feel lucky to not be involved in any of the drama that seems to go on! I can't be doing with any of it. I love that smaller bloggers are starting to get more recognition x

I'm literally JUST started (my blog is being built and content being created now) and it does make me nervous that I'm not an OG. But I am writing it largely for me and people who have the same questions I do. So I am reading many many blogs and following closely the people whose voice resonates with me. I hope I will find my circle as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! Everyone has a right to have a blog and there is a enough room for all of us online. I wish this negativity ends soon. Have a wonderful day x
ReplyDeleteAww, it's so lovely to read such a positive post about the blogging community - and especially at a time when, like you say, people are finding a lot to dislike about the community right now. Lovely post :)

This is great post again! I am still new at the blogging community and maybe I haven't found my bff here, but definitely met interesting people and I'm so grateful for this.

I get what you mean and I think it's so hard to make friendships with other bloggers too. I've been out of the game for a while though so I'm hoping it will be different this time round.
ReplyDeleteThe IG comment pod sounds like a good way to keep connected though.

This has been really interesting to read, I'm a new blogger literally just starting out, so it is great to find out how the blogging community can be such a positive thing. This has made me quite excited at the prospect of making new friends! Thank you for writing such a great post! xx

This is too true about people outside of blogging not understanding. It can be so difficult to try and communicate how much work and effort and time goes into blogging. It never stops!
ReplyDeletewww.upyourvlog.com
Ah! I totally agree with this especially the first part! Being a new blogger I feel a sense of "you can't sit with us" from some other sorta established bloggers I try to interact with. I have to constantly remind myself why I started blogging which is for me!
ReplyDeleteThe blogging BFF things sounds super cool and the Instagram comment pod also. Never head of those so it's good to know!
PS: just found your blog and I'm literally binge reading!
